About This Dashboard
The Civic Language Perceptions Dashboard explores how Americans understand and feel about key terms related to democracy, civic engagement, and equity.
Overview
Based on nationally representative surveys conducted in 2023 and 2025, this interactive platform provides insights into public perceptions that shape our political and social discourse.
This research initiative examines how factors like political ideology, age, education, and geographic location influence perceptions of terms such as "democracy," "patriotism," "racial equity," and "civic engagement." Understanding these perceptions is crucial for fostering effective communication and bridging divides in our increasingly diverse society.
Research Questions
The Civic Language Perceptions study addresses several key questions:
- How do Americans perceive key civic and political terms?
- Do certain terms bring people together or drive them apart?
- How do perceptions vary across demographic groups?
- Have these perceptions changed between 2023 and 2025?
